Gypsy Soul Confessions: I Have Joanna Gaines Envy
Oh, sweet Joanna Gaines, of HGTV’s most popular show Fixer Upper, your thick dark hair makes you look like Wonder Woman, you have four beautiful children and a wise-cracking handyman for a husband. Your Design Diva status grows every day– with furniture and decor offerings and a monthly glossy magazine. You’re part of a real estate empire and you are responsible for making people think Waco, Texas is cool. Most importantly, you bought an old rusty silo and turned it into a hugely successful store and travel destination for your many fans.
So why would I be jealous?
[Pause for answer]
[Uncomfortable silence]
Well, I was raised a nice Texas girl, too, and my mama taught me that jealousy isn’t becoming. So I’ll just wish you the best for all your success, and try to shake off the occasional twinge of envy.
I do have one tiny bone to pick with you, though, Miss Joanna. I had posted a “cute” picture of myself with my husband on the “About Me” page of this blog.
In fairness, it was taken before my toddler was born so it’s probably too old for me to be posting. But my husband came to me recently and asked me to take it down. He said Chip and Joanna had a photo just like it so we couldn’t post ours anymore.
I thought he was being over-sensitive. How many people will have seen this one photo of Chip and Joanna Gaines? How much alike could they be? Who cares?
Then yesterday I walked in to my local craft store and saw this:
Curse you, beautiful and talented Jo Jo! Now I do have to take this photo off my blog. Now you get to look like you’re having so much fun riding on your deliriously happy husband’s back, and I no longer get to look like I’m having so much fun riding on my deliriously happy husband’s back! We’ll have to take a new picture and make up some other awkward thing to laugh about.
Are you my evil twin? My doppelgänger? (Who just did everything first and better than me?)
I can’t figure it out tonight… But cheers, Chip and Jo, anything that brings friendly tourists to Waco can’t be too bad.
