Revamping an Old Table
Here’s a peek at a recent project: a thrift-store table that I revamped.
I loved the twisty legs and inlaid top, but this was a very factory-looking wood finish. I couldn’t wait to make it into something unique!
First I sanded the heavy shine and stain off the top of the table. I wanted to leave it natural so the pretty inlay design on top wouldn’t disappear.
Next I decided to try a new painting technique. I painted the base and legs of the table with dark gray chalk paint and let it dry well. Next I waxed it with white wax. I knew the grooves in the turned legs would look great with those white highlights.
I clear coated the top with Minwax polyurethane to protect it and bring out the differences in the two wood colors.
Finally, I switched out the plain wood knob for a vintage-style glass drawer pull.
I love the way this one turned out! Perfect in my sunny library/office.
